WORK WITH A WORLD HISTORY EXPERT

Hi, I’m Colleen.

What parents say about our World History tutors

Our team includes award-winning Princeton University undergrads and Master’s/PhD graduates who are rigorously screened and are extremely effective at communicating the material.

A quick “case study”:

The mother of a fifth grader at Princeton Charter School contacted us to help her daughter with history, English, and math.

Her daughter is highly intelligent and sees the big picture well, but has trouble with the details. Every now and then, she would “bomb” a test for no particular reason.

Our goal was to help her execute at the detailed level, as well as to teach her proper study, test-taking, and organizational skills.

We matched her with Colleen, an anthropology major at Princeton University who was valedictorian of her high school and has lots of experience working with middle school students.

Here’s some feedback from the mother:

“Hi Colleen, I can’t thank you enough for working with Johanna this past year.

You were able to adjust to engage her in every subject area and stimulate interest and enthusiasm for learning.

We will miss you this summer and hope to see you again in the fall.”

We receive messages like this every week.

We regularly track progress

Progress reports are shared after every session so you always know what’s going on.

A Real-Life Example:

Student: Amit
Tutor: Ryan
Subject(s): SAT2 World History
Date: 9/27
Time Tutored: 19:30 – 21:00

Material Covered:

Reviewing the two SAT II History Tests. Talked about importing strategies from the SAT, prediction, and using thematic elements to guide answers.

Assignments for Next Week:

Amit should focus on the Civil War and around the Civil war, using Process of elimination/prediction. Creating timelines/mindmaps on focus areas will also be helpful.

LEARN HOW WE CAN HELP

Addresses common student issues

A deep understanding of the subject matter allows us to personalize our approach.

Why is World History important?

Most of our World History students come to us for help in their middle school or high school History classes or to prep for the World History SAT Subject test.

Why do some students struggle with World History?

Many students struggle with organizing the huge amount of data, especially when it involves countries they may not be familiar with. Some also find it challenging to be able to dig down enough to understand the details, but also step away and see the bigger picture.

As a result, they may not always see how events are related to each other or the cause-and-effect behind things.

Doing well in world history requires more than just recall of dates and figures. Students must be able to critically read and analyze passages, and develop and defend their arguments in essay form.
