Hi, I’m Valerie! I’m an artist, researcher, and educator with a deep love for learning and creative exploration. I studied molecular biology and painting at Yale University and earned my master’s in global arts and culture from Rhode Island School of Design. My research background includes working in laboratories affiliated with Yale and Harvard Medical School, where I focused on genetic and epigenetic markers related to diabetes-related pathologies.
Currently, I teach art to children in hospices and hospitals around Phoenix, a role that has deepened my commitment to making art an accessible and healing experience. Alongside teaching, I am developing a painting series that explores the interconnectivity between the environment, the ego, and the body. My goal is to build a meaningful career in the arts while fostering a strong creative community.
As an educator, I have worked with students ages 3 to 18, supporting a broad range of subjects. I love watching my students grow and adapting my teaching to their unique learning styles. Whether mentoring in science, math, writing, or the arts, I strive to make learning engaging and empowering.
Outside of teaching, I enjoy painting, curating playlists, and reading outdoors with my cat friend, Evie, who is an enthusiastic (and opinionated) art critic.
I look forward to working with you!
