Priyanka

My name is Priyanka, and I’m an undergrad at Princeton University. I’m majoring in English and pursuing certificates in Creative Writing, Italian, Visual Art, and Cognitive Science. On campus, I’m involved with slam poetry, beekeeping, the Prindie Independent Film Festival, the student-run Disability Collective, and the Office of Disability Services. Outside of school, I’m an internationally award-winning and critically-acclaimed writer. I’m the author of three published books of poetry as well as a peer-reviewed scholarly study. I’ve worked with literary festivals and performed my poetry all around the world, and I’m the founder and editor-in-chief at the independent publishing house Half Mystic. In my spare time, I love exploring new hiking trails, thrifting, reading mystery novels, and baking bread. I grew up with depression, anxiety, OCD, and an auditory processing disorder called hyperacusis, so I know the struggle of falling behind on schoolwork and feeling “stupid” even when things look like they should be fine. I’m passionate about tutoring because I’m passionate about learning—I believe that process should be joyful and exhilarating rather than scary and shameful. I love working closely with my students to develop a relationship that focuses on more than grades: on their dreams, hopes, and goals, and on finding a drive to succeed not for the sake of the numbers but for the sake of themselves.
