Mary

Hi! My name is Mary, and I am a Comparative Literature and Society major at Columbia University, and I am spending the 2024-2025 academic year as a visiting student at Oxford. I was born and raised in New York City, and I speak Spanish and French. My areas of expertise as a tutor are literature, writing and essay help, English, Spanish, French, SAT/ACT (reading, English, and writing sections), and philosophy.

During my time at Oxford, I have studied under the tutorial system, an unparalleled learning experience that focuses on one-on-one teaching. This has shown me what it is like to be a student in an individualized, ambitious learning environment, and I am now able to extend these skills to help my own students.

My writing has been published in various print and digital magazines, and in 2023, a play that I wrote was staged at the New York Theater Festival. I am currently working as a writer and editor for a student magazine at Oxford, and back at Columbia I program live shows for our college radio station and serve as a committee member for the Institute for Comparative Literature and Society’s Literary Cultures in Conversation initiative.

I love writing, learning languages, and reading about politics and philosophy, and I have recently gotten very into playing chess and printmaking.
