Joe

I’m a big proponent of the idea of tutors being coaches or motivators as much as teachers. As captain of my high school swim team and later the club swim team at Princeton, I loved getting people motivated about what they were doing and pushing them to do more even as we joked around and had fun along the way. As a tutor for the McGraw Center at Princeton I tried to use the same techniques that I would use in the pool to keep students from giving up by injecting enthusiasm and excitement into what some might consider a boring activity. Combining this idea with the fact that I myself had a tough time when I transitioned into academics at Princeton but ultimately found a significant payoff from the struggle, I tutor because I want to join and push students on their own journeys to further develop their minds.
