I am a PhD student of Astrophysics at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. My studies lie at the intersection of black hole physics, demographic statistics, and computational modeling to explain the emergence and evolution of supermassive black holes over cosmic time. Thus far I have published multiple papers in the Astrophysical Journal.
Outside of research, I’ve developed a passion for teaching, having been a professor at a community college teaching multiple physics and statistics courses. I orient learning to start from basic concepts to work up to advanced topics and problems. My ultimate goal in teaching is to empower students to understand how to solve problems. Along the way I hope to show how seemingly distant ideas in mathematics and physics are interconnected to gain an appreciation for the mechanics of the physical world. I have taught students from the high school level through senior undergraduate astrophysics students.
I work to create a space where a student and I are free to exchange ideas, whether they be insights or questions. I’m patient and hope to work on problems not until we reach an answer but until we can interpret and understand the full solution.
