Amelie

Hi, I’m Amelie! I graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a B.S. in Physics with Honors, and I have over five years of experience teaching and tutoring students in mathematics and science. At Hopkins, I worked as a Learning Assistant for general physics lectures and labs, supporting over 100 students with problem solving, lab work, and Python. I also tutored one-on-one through the Learning Den, working with 15+ students across Calculus I–III, Linear Algebra, and Differential Equations. My approach is collaborative and encouraging. I focus not just on finding the right answer, but on helping students understand why a solution works, so they can tackle similar problems with confidence on their own.

Outside of physics, I’m an animator, filmmaker, comic artist, composer, and musician, and much of my creative work blends science with visual storytelling. I’ve taught science through art and comics in a quantum physics workshop at the University of Maryland, presented live astronomy shows at the Maryland Science Center, created educational animations for the Shanghai Astronomy Museum, and supported middle school science classes in physics, chemistry, and biology. I love finding unexpected ways to make a complicated idea feel familiar, visual, and easy to grasp.

Having received generous support from teachers and professors throughout my own education, I see tutoring as a way to pass that on. My goal is to help students feel supported rather than discouraged when a subject gets hard, and to give them the patience and confidence to keep working through it. As I’ve learned in physics: small changes, given enough time, can lead to something transformative.
