Hi! I’m Gabby Edelin and I graduated, with distinction, from Stanford University as a three time class President, with dual bachelor’s degrees in History and Psychology, and received the Alumni Award of Excellence. I am currently in a dual master’s program in International and World History at Columbia University and the London School of Economics.

My favorite moments as a tutor happen when a student stops looking at me for approval and starts trusting their own thinking. I saw this all the time as a writing tutor at Stanford’s Hume Center for Writing and Speaking, where I worked with students on everything from first-year essays to honors theses. I worked collaboratively with students to create a personal style and voice. I added finishing touches with grammar and pulled the best out of what they already had to refine it into a final result they were happy with. Someone would come in convinced their draft was a mess, and an hour later they would leave having figured out exactly what they were trying to say. I also served as a Teaching Fellow in Psychology, creating curriculum, leading biweekly 10-15 person discussion sections, grading exams and papers, and generally supporting students through coursework. I adored it when students got excited about what they were learning and fell in love with the subject! I feel strongest tutoring writing, reading, history, psychology, and test prep for the humanities sections of the ACT and SAT.

My work has taken me around the world! I studied abroad in Australia focusing on art, history and First Nations culture. I’ve held positions at the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, in a congressional office on Capitol Hill, at a museum in Tallinn, Estonia, at a democratic nonprofit in DC advocating for voting rights and in a venture capital firm in San Francisco. I also conducted an independent research project interviewing people across Australia, Estonia and America about the meaning of freedom.

I love tutoring. I truly believe every student already has good ideas. My job is to help them find the words.
