Hi there! My name is Paulie and I am a South African writer, editor, filmmaker and tutor with Princeton Tutoring!
Though I’d describe myself as a bubbly presence who loves to joke and create a warm atmosphere, I have been a serious academic all my life. If any of my high school teachers or Brown University professors were to be asked, they would attest to this. A diligent student, highly experienced writer and mentor, and ambitious hard-worker, I have both excelled in every class I have taken as well as climbed the leadership ladder of most places I have worked within.
Beyond the evidence of my 1590 SAT score and the essay that got me into Brown early decision, these qualities make me the perfect fit for tutoring students in any and all the aspects of applying to a top institution. I’ve balanced various extracurricular activities to build an impressive resume that speaks for itself, while staying on top of my academics. I also perfected test-taking techniques in order to ensure my extensive preparation for examinations still translated into top results even under the pressure of a test sitting, an overlooked aspect of this type of tutoring that I would be able to offer to any students (especially many of those who are hindered by anxieties and stress around these life-defining tests).
I’m also very experienced in editing and evaluating writing through my various different writing jobs and positions over the years in addition to my undergrad major, most extensively as the Opinions Chief for the Brown Daily Herald and in my writing for publications like Apogee Journal and Low Altitude.
In terms of working one-on-one with students, I am also particularly experienced through my work as both an assigned editor for columnists within the Brown Daily Herald, but also through my work as a Gender and Sexuality Peer Counselor. In this role, I spent years developing individual relationships with students of all walks of life, mentoring them in how to thrive at Brown and balance all aspects of their lives, something that is actually quite relevant to any student trying to stack up a resume needed for these types of applications. It also reveals my sincere passion for social causes concerning equitable diversity and inclusion. I have always been involved in advocacy work and believe strongly that all people (and students!) should be free to thrive as themselves in any environment. No student I work with has or will ever feel judged or unsafe.
In addition to my work as a tutor, I am pursuing independent filmmaking through work with industry veterans like Joey Soloway and Angela Robinson, as well as my own writing in narrative spheres as well as non-fiction. You can catch me in New York cycling up and down the city or exploring the local art scene with friends!
