Hi! My name is Segan and I have a BA in Social Studies and a Master of Education from Harvard University. I am currently pursuing my J.D. as a Law, Equity and Race Scholar at Northeastern University School of Law.
I’m originally from San Diego, California and moved to Boston for school when I was 18. During my undergrad, I was engaged in social science research, the debate team, and public service. I published research on modern slavery in the Journal of Public Health and wrote a senior thesis on restorative court programming. I also volunteered as a tutor and program coordinator for an after school program serving middle school students in the Greater Boston area. During undergrad, I attended University of Cambridge through Harvard’s study abroad program and completed four independent research courses.
After undergrad, I was awarded a traveling fellowship to learn about intentional community and sustainable living in Vermont. I also worked as an instructor and curriculum designer for an after school writing center for middle school and high school students. I really enjoy being able to help students become stronger writers and critical thinkers. I especially enjoy helping students with their college essays— personal narratives are a rigorous, but extremely rewarding writing task! I have experience with both general application support and essay counseling from working as a college admissions advisor, and working as a junior and senior advisor while I was teaching. I have strong familiarity with the Ivy League application process, having gone through it myself multiple times.
During and after graduate school, I worked as a high school history teacher and academic advisor in Cambridge. I taught AP US History and Modern World History.
In my free time, I love to run, bike, crochet, and make ceramics.
