WORK WITH A PRE-ALGEBRA EXPERT

Hi, I’m Erick.

What parents say about our Pre-Algebra tutors

Our team includes award-winning Princeton University undergrads and Master’s/PhD graduates who are rigorously screened and are extremely effective at communicating the material.

A quick “case study”:

The mother of a sixth grader at John Witherspoon Middle School contacted us to help her son with pre-algebra.

He was very creative and excelled at writing, but really struggled with math. He was diagnosed with auditory processing disorder and has difficulty with numbers, logic, sequential thinking, and mathematical terms. The new levels of abstraction in pre-algebra were giving him a lot of trouble.

We matched the student with Erick, an economics major at Princeton University who had been tutoring pre-algebra since he was in eighth grade and has worked with students who have disabilities before. Additionally, his mother was a seventh-grade pre-algebra teacher.

Here’s what we heard back from the family:

“Thank you and Kevin for Princeton Tutoring.

We’ve now been working with Erick for some time, and he has been very helpful and conscientious on his part, helping Jackson with his homework and also following up with me regarding special Spanish tidbits!

Thanks for your professionalism, and we look forward to connecting [again] come September with Erick!”

We receive messages like these every week.

We regularly track progress

Progress reports are shared after every session so you always know what’s going on.

A Real-Life Example:

Student: Maddison
Tutor: Lindsey
Subject(s): Pre-Algebra
Date: 03/08/2020
Time Tutored: 14:00 – 15:00

Material Covered:

Today we started learning chapter 7, since Maddie’s last test was over chapter six. This was entirely new material to her, so we worked through it slowly.

We covered all of section 7.1, about the properties of adding and multiplying exponents. We went through examples with just numbers, some geometry, and word problems.

Maddie was very strong in this by the time we moved on. We then went over section 7.2, about the properties of subtracting and dividing exponents, multiplying by a 0 exponent, negative exponents, and negative denominator exponents.

The basis of these concepts was similar to the one in the previous section, so Maddie caught on pretty fast.

LEARN HOW WE CAN HELP

Addresses common student issues

A deep understanding of the subject matter allows us to personalize our approach.

Why is Pre-Algebra important?

Pre-algebra is typically covered in middle school and as the name suggests, is meant as preparation for algebra. It introduces variables and teaches students how to solve different types of equations.

Without a strong foundation in Pre-algebra, students will struggle with Algebra.

Why do some students struggle with Pre-Algebra?

Some students have trouble with, among other things, the concept of variables, or more complicated uses of negative numbers.

This is often the first time that students are introduced to a more abstract way of approaching math.
